On November 10, we celebrated the formal launch of the ARC Research Hub for Engineering Plants to Replace Fossil Carbon. We were joined by some or our best supporters, including representatives from the ARC, UQ and the Hub’s Partners.
UQ’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Deborah Terry helped us celebrated, and shared thoughts on the scale of the challenge the Hub is helping to tackle. Bonnie Johnson from the Australian Research Council (ARC) shared a compelling vision for how Australian-grown crops could power future flights.
Hub Director Associate Professor Karine Chenu emphasized the importance of making biofuel production economically competitive, while Inaugural Director Emeritus Professor Robert Henry outlined the Hub’s goal to dramatically improve carbon conversion efficiency in sugarcane bagasse. We were also privileged to hear from Hub Theme Lead Professor Gary Schenk, who shared some stories of his upcoming research he would lead in the Hub.
The Hub’s collaborative structure of projects spans across research areas, from spatial genomics and biotech to farming and fuel production, talking the challenge from different angles.
The ARC Research Hub for Engineering Plants to Replace Fossil Carbon is grateful to have a range of partners across academia and industry, made possible by the ARC’s Industrial Transformation Research Program.
